In Search of the Lost Feminine

Decoding the Myths That Radically Reshaped Civilization: Is there a new story to be gleaned from the ashes for 3,500 years of war and heroes, misogyny and discrimination? Now, more than ever, old myths that glorify war, oppress women, disconnect from the earth or deny spiritual ecstasy are no longer useful to guide human development. Understanding the storied origins of those patriarchal norms fills us at first with fury and then grief and then, at last, the possibility for liberation. Before Domination, another World. Myths to Justify Patriarchy. Stories that Grip us Personally. History as if Kings were the Key. Messages about Women, Ecstasy. If not All This, Then Who are We, Really?

Stories focus our attention, organize our resources, give us meaning, a sense of place, and-when they are in turmoil-can lead to wholly changed lives. They are like the great wind behind our sails and have been so since the first literature of Homer and Genesis. Craig Barnes first began to use stories as a trial lawyer, and then in 15 years of international negotiations, and finally as the author of In Search of the Lost Feminine, an award-winning study in cultural anthropology.

The Place: Mabel Dodge Luhan House, Taos, New Mexico, is an historic inn and conference center that has accommodated many of the great art and literary minds for the past eighty years. Its rich cultural heritage is enhanced by adobe charm, quiet patios and tree-lined acequias.

The Dates:
Friday evening, March 6 through noon, Monday, march 10, 2008.

The costs:
$1100 shared room
$1250 single room.

Fee includes lodging, all meals, tips, and semar materials including two books.

The facilitators:

Now, more than ever, old myths that glorify war, oppress women, disconnect from the earth or deny spiritual ecstasy are no longer useful to guide human development. Understanding the storied origins of those patriarchal norms fills us at first with fury and then grief and then, at last, the possibility for liberation.

These discussions will include pictures and slides and will run from September 26, 2007, each Wednesday evening for seven weeks through November 7, between 7:00 and 9:00PM.

Now, more than ever, old myths that glorify war, oppress women, disconnect from the earth or deny spiritual ecstasy are no longer useful to guide human development. Understanding the storied origins of those patriarchal norms fills us at first with fury and then grief and then, at last, the possibility for liberation.

Join us for conversations in depth with Craig Barnes, author, philosopher, politicist, compassionate human being. Based on In Search of the Lost Feminine; Decoding the Myths that Radically Reshaped Civilization by Craig Barnes (2006).

These discussions will include pictures and slides and will run from September 26, 2007, each Wednesday evening for seven weeks through November 7, between 7:00 and 9:00PM.
